Webley & Scott is one of the oldest names in the gun industry with almost two centuries of production of some of the most famous firearms the world has ever seen - the Webely revolver, shotguns, and Webley rifles.<\/p>\n
The first production Webley revolver appeared in 1853. Known as the Longspur, it was a barreled percussion cap and ball gun. It is considered by some to be the best revolver of its time because it could fire as fast as contemporary Colt revolvers and reload faster. However, the handcrafted Longspur could not compete on price with mass-produced revolvers such as the Colt, and production never matched that of Webley's competitors, the Adams of Tranter.<\/p>\n
After the dominant success of the pistol and shotgun market, Webley decided to enter the airgun market in the early 1900s when the UK Firearms Act 1920 required people to obtain a firearms certificate to purchase or own a firearm. After several years of development, Webley released its first air pistol, the Mark I in 1924. Webley released its first air rifle (Mark I Air Rifle) two years later in 1926. The Webley Mark I Air Rifle set the standard for such weapons. The rifle with a spring-loaded rifle is a highly collectible item today. The successor model, the MKII service (1929), became known as the service because it was used to train military recruits. Today, a complete gun in its original box can fetch as much as $3,000.<\/p>\n
